Nestled between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains in Virginia’s fabled Shenandoah Valley we are lucky to be in such a unique area that combines historic culture, natural beauty and friendly atmosphere. Here we have enclosed information about different things you can do to enjoy your visit at Helms Mountain Hideaway and in the area.
Enjoy horseback riding, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Horseback adventures for the entire family. Reservations required.
Approximately 15 minutes away from the cabin at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains is located Luray Caverns Country Club Resort 18 hole Golf Course. About 30 miles away enjoy Shenvalee Golf Course or Massenutten Resort. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park for good old family fun of putt-putt about 10 minutes away.
Down the road about 3 minutes from our cabin is located the Hawksbill Recreational Park owned by the town of Stanley. There is a large swimming pool open to the public for a nominal fee. Also while at the Park, enjoy the volleyball courts and horseshoe pits through out the summer months.
There are several companies that will arrange for short river trips or all day floats to suit your needs. It is best to call in advance and make a reservation. Please do not forget to find out when their bus leaves to transport or pick up.
Without a doubt you are in the hiking paradise: the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains, George Washington National Forest offer a spectacular hiking trails of varying difficulties, including the famous Appalachian Trial. We have prepared three of the most popular hikes. If you don’t want to go far, we have approximately one mile of walking trails available from your door. Please follow the walking arrows on the indicated trails! Our walking trails close at dark. Please don’t depart if you can not be back before dark.
We are lucky to be in such an ideal area surrounded by magnificent Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. There is no need to say that our nature here, in the Shenandoah Valley is our pride and treasure, and one of the most important attractions! Staying at Helms Mountain Hideaway you can enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities but what can be better than sun on your skin and refreshing wind in your face!
